What is the purpose of meditation?


For many people meditation has become a way of quietening the mind, indeed you will find many teachers stating that this is the purpose of meditation. And indeed, when you meditate this can happen, however the opposite can happen also, it can be an opportunity for the mind to become very busy. When the inspiration came to write this blog, I felt to look up the definition of meditation, and here’s what I found:

contemplation, thought, thinking, musing, pondering, consideration, reflection, prayer, deliberation, 

study, rumination, cogitation, brooding, mulling over, reverie, brown study, concentration, speculation; 


So how can meditation be about quietening the mind, if here we have it as time to think, to contemplate or muse etc?  Does anyone really know what meditation is anymore? Are there too many people claiming to know what meditation is and giving their own perspective? I wonder what is the real meaning of meditation?


Well now, here I am giving you my understanding of meditation, meditation that is in relation to the SEJ process. The original purpose of meditation was to know a deeper dimension within, you may call this the True Self as we do in the SEJ Process, or God, Love, Universe, it really doesn’t matter what you call it as they are only words. In order to know this deeper dimension, not just as a theory but experientially one does have to go beyond the mind. And yet the purpose of meditation is not to obtain a state of ‘no mind’, or no thoughts, but rather to see clearly that you are not your thoughts, and therefore they can, even in meditation come and go, for they have no power over you until you believe them to be true.


Once you begin the journey of Self Empowerment, you naturally begin to see the mind becomes quieter, as you are no longer energising thoughts with your attention. When the mind becomes quieter you naturally experience the deeper dimension within. This is why we say the SEJ is a meditation. Now instead of the quiet place of stillness only occurring when you sit and meditate, you are a walking meditation. One who walks in meditation shares their Presence, their love, their joy with all.
