THE CALL FROM THE BOSS
All of us who have worked for someone, will at some time noticed your phone ringing with your boss’ phone number showing. Having worked in sales for many years myself it was always with a sense of mild dread as my boss would always want the latest update on a deal I was working on or an update on my sales figures.
My mind would invariably rush to the conclusion that I’m about to get something wrong, get pulled up on my figures, have an awkward conversation around something that wasn’t right, or be given another task that I frankly didn’t have the time or inclination to do. All this before I’d even picked up the phone, no wonder I dreaded these phone calls. “Why won’t he/she leave me alone”.
As I began to practice the wonderfully simple process of the SEJ, I came to be aware of these thoughts that ran subconsciously through my head at the mere ring of the phone from the boss. As I then began to bring truth to the situation, I began to have the awareness that yes, my boss did want to speak to me, and yes a lot of the time it was about a deal or my numbers; but the truth of the situation was that I’d not done anything wrong, he or she just needed to know the update and my numbers as someone above them was asking them for the update and the numbers. In practicing the SEJ I moved from a place where the mere ringing of my phone took me on a rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions, to a place where I was just relaying facts to another human being on the end of a phone and where there were no negative thoughts or emotions attached.
Such a simple daily task that could put me in a bad place mentally and emotionally, and would no doubt effect the rest of the day and possibly the people around me, moved to just another thing that I did in my day by simply practicing, the very simple SEJ. As our Meerkat friend always says “SIMPLES”.
