Einstein and the SEJ

“I think 99 times and find nothing I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.”

Albert Einstein

Throughout the SEJ Process, at Step 2 and 3 we ask you to swim in the silence that Einstein refers to. Let's look at another of his quotes  ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.’  I wasn’t aware of these quotes until recently when a colleague introduced them to me. I was so inspired as without doubt they help to explain the SEJ Process perfectly. So, I will share with you why both quotes explain the spiritual dimension of the SEJ Process. Often a sticking point for some as the 'spiritual' is either unknown or considered too 'airy fairy'  by others, but without doubt the Spiritual dimension is a key element of the SEJ Process that brings the peace, joy, freedom and resolution that the individual is seeking. So let's take a look at what Einstein has to say about it.

At Step 1 of the SEJ we look at the problem, this being the only step of the Process where we do so, the remaining 3 steps are solution focused, as we always say the SEJ is a Solution Focused Process and therefore we do not use the same thinking to solve the problem, all thoughts about the problem are noted at Step 1. At Step 2 we begin, to use Einstein’s words ‘to swim in silence’, where thinking has no place.  When a person is unaware of the spiritual aspect, they will endeavour to think through a problem only to find that the solution is elusive as this only serves in continually churning over the problem in their mind. So, although a person thinks they are solution focused, that they are using mind or intellect to find the answers only ever does this serve to bring the individual back to the problem.

At Step 2 we ask you to ‘sit ‘with the original thought believed, or ‘make friends’ with the thought. Here it is a request to be still, observing the thought believed, this is the same as to ‘swim in the silence’. However, a person will often find themselves struggling with simply sitting and allowing a space for the thought to communicate with them, to be open to the thought and not push it away with more thoughts, as mind adds to the ‘story’ noted at Step 1.  So this takes practice and you can call this meditation if you will, to sit and be still, but as you master this you will become a walking meditation, the stillness or silence is something that you then find is at the fore as the busy mind takes its rightful place, becoming more silent simply storing and accessing information as is deemed relevant by the individual. No longer seeking to be relevant when it is memory and has no place in the present.

“I think 99 times and find nothing I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.”

So we can see that the continual thinking ’99 times’ with no solution found is why we have Step 2 as the beginning of our Solution. You will find that this solution is called throughout the Process ‘Truth’, and the thinking is referred to as that which is ‘false’.

As it takes practice to sit in the silence of Truth, we offer a ‘climbing of the ladder’ in which we say to climb the ladder of truth. Anyone can do this as it requires only that you understand opposites. Therefore, a child as young as 5 can easily do the SEJ Process.

At Step 3 of the SEJ Process we go deeper into the Truth that is realised and seen from a different level of consciousness at Step 2. As a person works Step 3, they go deeper and deeper into Truth, it is both enlightening and freeing. When practicing the SEJ they find that they no longer need situations to change in their life to be happy, joyous or peaceful, that all of this comes from within the moment they realise the ‘Truth’.

Finally, at Step 4 we simply test the original thought believed. This will show that there is no longer any truth for the individual in this original thought, as there is no emotional pull or physical body reactions. Freedom and joy is once more established as the natural state of being where suffering was experienced; and a deeper connection to the 'Truth' is established.
